Aah, that is a nice one as well. Well, yes... I have it
The story behind this LP as I heard it many years ago, is that an employee at the pressing factory was fooling around a bit and made this just as a test. Perhaps on request by some record collector, I don't know. True or not, it is a one of a kind LP.
Ah, yeah... well.. I have the same picture on my hard drive since may years, not maybe the actual LP ;D
When RockAway Records offered this record to me, they gave additional info. I don't think that it is a one-off, but still remains a strange issue. I think it can't be a one-off for two reasons: the sticker and the date onto dead wax. The sticker: rectangular orange one promoting the hit featured hit YCAGWYW the date onto wax for the making of the matrix: 1971 I have circa 24 different US Let It Bleed, but none of them has an orange sticker and a 1971 matrix. 1971 was a year of re-making of matrixes for LONDON, as Got LIVE and 12x5 prove (please, see dates onto their vinyl), but I never came across a 1971 Let it Bleed. Can anyone share his know-how? (PS: RockAway Records sent me a colour photograph of the offered record and I've printed it in b'n'w in one of my books. Those who've got the book know what I mean) Bye, Luca
If I'm not mistaken Rockaway had it up for auction. In 1997 I bought the 1972 tourposter from them and after that I received their mailing list regularly. One of the mailinglists had the ad for the multicoloured Let It Bleed. I still have it somewhere in my archives. Might be interesting to dig it up I guess...
You are right vinckske, Rockaway offered for sale to everyone! cannot remember an auction,I just remember it was expensive. The only other Rockaway Records store is the sister one here in Brisbane. They had all the info on it , but way too Dear. Whether it is the same one or not it has come up for sale a couple of times. One of the major auction houses had it for sale in the early 2000's along with one of the TTPD prototype picture discs. Cheers
