Been following the stupid discussion on another forum lately, the one regarding Stones being in Paris recording new material on or around 20th to 24th of August 2012.
My two cent on this: recording of two or three new songs that will be included on a new compilation Greatest Hits CD to be issued before new year. There is not any official Stones compilation on the market for the moment and the current label will correct that by issuing a compilation.
Another two cent: On will be a rocker and the other will be a classic Keith slow mumbling thing
A third two cents: 50 Licks would be a suitable name for the CD. There is however not enough of space to put 50 songs on two CD's. So either they will do new remixes to get them to fit or then they will option for a three CD set. But then again, that will be too expensive so they can't get a 3 CD package sold to the general public.
Just speculating, lets see in a few months time what happens

That's 6 cents! What I heard: a 3CD box set with another multimedia (a DVD ?) disc. ...but in 4 formats (3CD+DVD, 3CD, 2CD, 4LP ??) Just 2 new songs included. Of course: not sure of anything! Best

What the hell is going on with this guys? Have they the first handling of demention? Are they out of control? I don't. I think only the money (from us) is in first position. In my opinion they are laughing with their own fans. Money machine has to be rollin.

I see it a bit different Luc.
It is just natural that this compilation CD is being issued now. The last Greatest Hits, 40 Licks, is now 10 years old and long time ago out of print. If a young guy or a causal music lower goes into a super market music department today, they cannot find ANY hits CD with the Rolling Stones. In other words, a person who like to get to know the band through a greatest hits, he cannot do it as there is no CD available at all!!!
The old 40Licks cannot be reissued by Universal as that CD is owned by Virgin.
The band is now 50 years old and that is the Golden opportunity for Universal to put a hits collection back where it belongs, in a record shop for people to buy.
PS, I do not care for Downloads so that is a different story. But a current Greatest Hits has to be available in whatever format you need it. Until now it has not been officially available.
Then it is another thing that we diehards has to buy the great hit Miss You again for the 14th time is also another story. But they just put two new songs in there and then we buy it again......
I will probably buy three of the sets, the DVD size, the 80 hits and the vinyl box.

Jan, you wrote this: ""The band is now 50 years old and that is the Golden opportunity for Universal to put a hits collection back where it belongs, in a record shop for people to buy."" Yesterday I was in a cd&lp record shop in Belgium, where do you know the """STONES""" where in the shop? Yes, in the section of SOLD OUT.

EXACTLY, that is why the record company is releasing a new compilation CD so that the shopkeeper don't have to say SOLD OUT but "yes, I have a great compilation for you, HERE"

A complication cd is great for those who discover the stones for the first time. Here in Belgium ( in Oostende, where i live) , you can only find the london singles collection ( wich is a very great one). The 40 licks is here OOP since a long time. I don't mind about a new complication. Lets rock'n' roll.

I'm not sure myself it he word "compilation" is the correct word for these Greatest Hits discs...
Anyhow, I just tried to order the vinyl box through the official Stones page AND Finland was not listed as a country in the drop down when confirming the delivery address !!!
What a drag, can't order anything from RS then can I...

GRRR is likely to be a massive flop as the mast majority of songs are covered in Hot Rocks & 40 Licks which most fans already have. As 40 licks sold over 1.0m copies in the UK and Hot Rocks over 10.0m world wide there is unlikely to be any real sales interest in GRRR. The Stones are going thru the motions with the record deal they have with Universal to try and keep them happy. Hopefully they will release Doom & Gloom & One Last Shot as a single which if so then i will buy but not GRRR. To pay £100.00 for the alleged 80 song version is daylight robbery especially as the track listings for the other 30 tracks are not yet available. As far as going back on the road the Stones need 2 weeks full rehearsal time plus 5/6 concerts before they are back in the groove. At their advanced age plus the money they have already accumulated can't see where the motivation to perform again will come from and A Bigger Bang which finished in 2007 may indeed be the last time.
